Book Review: The Devil Wears Prada

One of my goals for 2013 was to read 24 book. They can be re-reads, but I'm really trying to make them all new books (or at least 24 of them).

This segways into a great feature I'd like to do. Book Reviews!

The types of books I read range from young adult, typical girly frivolous type titles, historical fiction, fantasy, classics, and everything in between.

So I'l start with a typical girly frivolous type novel.

The Devil Wears Prada
by: Lauren Weisberger

Summary:
Andy Sachs is a recent college grad, living in New York City. She somehow lands a job at prestigious "Runway Magazine." According to everyone it's the "Job a million girls would die for." For Andy it's just a gateway to someday getting a serious writing position in a place like The New Yorker. However, she finds herself still bedning over backwards for her crazy demanding boss, Miranda Priestly. Going on coffee runs, being forced to find things like a review for a Chinese restaurant, without even being told where the article was published. But, she pushes on, and starts destroying her personal life, in an effort to make it through a One year sentence. She hears that after one year as Miranda Priestly's assistant, she can get a job anywhere. Andy soon has to chose between her career and her friends and family. Will she make the right choice?

What I liked:
It's a fun read! It's easy to get through, has some of those blatantly obvious 'life lesson' type story lines, and the writing isn't actually half bad.

How it differs from the Movie:
The story line is actually pretty different. I'll make a few quick points.

1. The actual physical appearance of everyone in the novel is wildly different from the movie, but this really doesn't effect the plot line much.
2. The book is generally more adult than the movie. There's some cussing, smoking, drinking, and "adult behavior".
3. The ending is different, but both are great.

Do  I recommend it?
Absolutely! It's a great fun read. check it out!
